About HGHI Burke Global Health Fellowship
The HGHI Burke Global Health Fellowship is a prestigious program designed to support postdocs and junior faculty in their pursuit of innovative research and teaching initiatives in global health. Funded by the generous contributions of Harvard alumna Katherine States Burke and her husband T. Robert Burke, this fellowship has empowered over 50 promising scholars since its inception in 2009.
Types of Awards
- HGHI Burke Global Health Research: $75,000 each
- HGHI Burke Global Health Curriculum Development and Teaching: $25,000 each
- HGHI Burke Climate and Health Research: $75,000 each (includes a salary of $75,000 per year for up to two years)

Expectations and Responsibilities
- Participate in relevant HGHI and Salata Institute events
- Submit annual progress reports and scholarly papers
- Present research findings to the global health community

- Acknowledge HGHI Burke funding in all communications
- Serve as a reviewer for future fellowship applicants
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates must have a doctoral degree or equivalent in a relevant field
- Ideal candidates are within the first 5 years of a faculty position
- Applicants must secure a commitment from a Harvard faculty member to serve as a research mentor
- Candidates should demonstrate experience in scholarly research
