Recognized Countries
There are two categories of countries recognized by the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship article 16 constitution.

The Program country students
These are the EU member states which include: Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden and some countries recognized as third countries associated with the program. These third countries include; members of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) which are also members of the European Economic Area (EEA). They are 3 in number: Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
Also, countries in accordance with the treaty of Erasmus Mundus Scholarships’ tenets. Such countries are referred to as candidate countries. They include; North Macedonia, Republic of Turkey and Republic of Serbia.

The Partner country students
They are referred to as third countries not associated to the program. All in accordance with section 17 of Erasmus Mundus Scholarships’ constitution.
These countries are grouped into 14 regions namely:
Region 1
- Known as the Western Balkans. They include:
- Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo6 and Montenegro.
Region 2
- Also known as the Neighborhood East includes: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Territory of Ukraine as recognized by international law.
Region 3
- The South-Mediterranean countries which include: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia.
Region 4
- Known as the Russian Federation: This Comprises of all the territory of Russia as recognized by international law
Region 5
- Asia and High Income Countries: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
- In addition to region 5 are the high income generating countries such as: Brunei, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Macao, Singapore and Taiwan
Region 6
Central Asia: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan
Region 7
- The Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Yemen and also these high income countries in the region: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates
Region 8
- The Pacific which includes: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
- In addition, the High income countries in the region like Australia & New Zealand.
Region 9
- Sub-Saharan Africa which includes: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cabo Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Congo – Democratic Republic of the, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
